Nelson Mandela 1918 - 2013. Yesterday the world lost one of the greatest men of our time. In the company of Mahatma Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr., Mr. Mandela spent his life doing all he could to make the world a better place. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said, "Many around the world were greatly influenced by his selfless struggle for human dignity, equality and freedom." All of us should strive to show the same qualities of forgiveness and concern for each other.

At our Remembrance Day assembly this coming Monday, we will conclude with a song by Johnny Reid. Today I'm Going to Try and Change the World is a great message and challenge to us all. Please listen carefully to the lyrics. Together we can make a difference.
Yesterday afternoon we had the privilege of hosting Ted Staunton. Ted is one of the authors of the highly successfully compilation entitled Seven the Series. Ted captured everyone's attention with his engaging personality and humour. In the evening he joined four of the other authors at Nantry Shores Secondary School in Innisfil as part of a promotional tour. Mr. Summers attended, along with about 100 other interested readers. All seven authors will be appearing at Banting Memorial High School in Alliston on November 13th at 7:00 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet seven of Canada's leading authors of children's books. You won't be disappointed! Copies of all the books will be available to purchase for $10 each, or $60 for the complete set.
